Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2026 Preview: Long Shots, Wind, and the Profile That Wins at Port Royal

The PGA Tour heads to Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda this week (October 22–25) for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship — and if you’re building DraftKings lineups, this is not the week to play it safe. This tournament has a type, and the type is chaos.

The course: short, coastal, and defended by wind

Port Royal is a par 71 playing just 6,828 yards — one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour calendar. Length doesn’t separate anyone here. What does:

  • Approach play and greens in regulation. With driver largely neutralized, the week is won from the fairway in.
  • Bermuda-green putting. The field splits hard between guys who roll it on Bermuda and guys who don’t.
  • Par-4 scoring, especially the 350–400 yard holes. That’s where the birdies live.
  • Wind tolerance. Port Royal sits on the Atlantic. When the wind gets up — and it usually does — the leaderboard shuffles by the hour, and proven wind players hold their scores together.

The winner profile: nobody’s favorite

Here’s the stat that defines this event: five of the last seven champions were ranked outside the top 300 in the world when they won. Brendon Todd, Camilo Villegas and Brian Gay all took this trophy home at long-shot prices (100-1 and beyond). All five of the most recent champions are back in this year’s field — and history says the winner is just as likely to come from the cheap end of the DK salary pool as from the top.

For GPP construction, that means:

  1. Don’t anchor everything to the favorites. One or two steady names for a floor, then embrace the long-shot profile this tournament keeps rewarding.
  2. Weight course fit over recent headlines. Approach/GIR merchants and Bermuda putting specialists overpower raw form here.
  3. Leave salary on the table if the fits demand it. Bermuda weeks reward the right $7K golfer more than the famous $10K one.

The contest

DraftKings’ flagship for the week is the $150K Sand Trap ($25 entry, $50K to first), locking Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 AM ET. It’s a max-150-entry GPP — small enough that a well-built long-shot core can genuinely take it down.

We’ll be building our Bermuda lineups all week in the Discord — research, cores and final lineups, free as always.
